Also remember his angel mojo was almost gone at this point in the story… it probably hurt like a bitch. But then, he’s always happy to bleed for the Winchesters, right?

I sometimes wonder if some of those other angels who were present for this switched sides from this moment on. BAMF Castiel. Not Raphael, not Michael, hell- not even Lucifer did anything like this. So personal, so RISKY. Everyone else acted through emissaries and plots; wheras Cas was the ‘good little soldier’ and laid his life on the line time and time again. For Dean. For Sam. For the world. Because he felt it was worth saving. God said ‘watch over’ and this is not passive. This is deliberate choice. He was/is strategic to the point of suicidal. Loyalty and honor and damnit Cas you’re the best character ever.
